Fantasy Moon & Clouds Over Water by Johan Swanepoel

We would like to congratulate Robert Knox of Quincy, Massachusetts, who has been named the inaugural winner of The Prophecy Creek Award in Speculative Fiction for his novel Karpa Talesman. Robert will receive a monetary award of $1,000 and publication with Hidden River Press, an imprint of Hidden River Publishing.

Please see the News and Announcements tab for a listing of the semi-finalists and finalists.

The deadline for the next cycle of The Prophecy Creek Award in Speculative Fiction is May 15, 2020. Submissions will be accepted beginning February 1, 2020.

Hidden River Arts offers the Prophecy Creek Award in Speculative Fiction yearly award with a monetary prize of $1,000, and publication on Hidden River Press, an imprint of Hidden River Publishing, for an original, unpublished book-length work of speculative fiction.

We use the term “speculative fiction” to be an all-inclusive umbrella term. Using the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Literature as our guide, we invite: “…speculative fiction (that) includes fantasy, science fiction, and horror, but also their derivatives, hybrids, and cognate genres like the gothic, dystopia, weird fiction, post-apocalyptic fiction, ghost stories, superhero tales, alternate history, steampunk, slipstream, magic realism, fractured fairy tales, and more….”

Your submitted manuscript must be previously unpublished. Please be aware that we consider ALL forms of publication as disqualification. Self-publishing is publication; if your manuscript has an isbn number, or if it is available for sale online and/or in brick and mortar stores, your book is “published”.

The deadline for all manuscript submissions is May 15, 2020. Entry fee: $20 US. This competition is open to international submissions for all writers in English. We accept simultaneous submissions, and ask only that you notify us immediately if your book has been accepted for publication elsewhere. We also accept multiple manuscript submissions. Each manuscript must be submitted as a separate entry, with all the required information.

All submissions must include name, address, telephone number, email, website (if you have one), a brief biography. Please include a synopsis, outline, and full manuscript, IN THAT ORDER. Online submissions through Submittable are required. Please note that, when submitting online, all materials must be combined into ONE document before uploading. Any submission that does not include the required information will be disqualified.

All awards are decided by Hidden River staff, and decisions are final. The semi-finalists, finalists and winner will be announced on this blog, so please be sure to bookmark us to keep up-to-date on our progress.
