Sandy Run Novella Semi-finalists, Finalists and Winner Announcement

The 2021 Award Cycle

We are pleased to announce the winner of the Sandy Run Novella Award for 2021.  She is Susan Fox of New York City, New York, for her novella, The Names of the Dead. Of her work, Susan says, “The work was inspired by the mass abductions of young girls by the Lord’s Resistance Army, Boko Haram, and other fundamentalist thugs passing themselves off as True Believers. I wanted to give these girls the means to save themselves, and I decided that if that was impossible in reality, I could still do it in fiction. The story of the abducted girls is brutal, and so necessarily is this novella. But in my characters’ reaction to brutality I hope also to portray heroism and defiance and salvation.”

Susan will receive a $1,000 award and publication on our Hidden River Press imprint at Hidden River Publishing.

We would also like to congratulate the semi-finalists and finalists of the Sandy Run Novella Award. So many of you presented us with wonderful work; we want to offer your our sincere appreciation for entrusting us with your work.
